About the initiative

The Future Creatives Initiative is inviting up-and-coming women Cinematographers to submit an application in accordance to the brief provided, for the opportunity to be awarded with the 'Emerging Cinematographer Award 2020'. The winner will have the opportunity to works as the Director of Photography on Georgia Ketels film ‘Recollection’ produced by Taival Films and premiered at MWFF in 2021.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The winner of the ‘Emerging Cinematographers Award 2020’

could be you.

STEP #1

Create a visual mood board and cinematography treatment, outlining your vision based on the logline and synopsis of Georgia Ketels the 7-10 minutes short film ‘Recollection’.

 

Submit an application for the Initiative by 31st of December 2019. 

STEP #2

Shortlisted entrants will be invited to pitch their ideas to our panel of Mentors in February 2020, during the MWFF 2020 season in February.


Successful entrants will have 5-minutes to pitch their vision in front of the Mentors.

 
Three shortlisted entrants, to be announced at the MWFF 2020 award ceremony night, will be chosen to enter our Cinematography Mentoring Program.


Shortlisted entrants will be paired up with an up-and-coming Director (at Taival Films Discretion), to team up and hone the visual style of the screenplay for final presentation event.

STEP #3

All 3 mentored Cinematographers, along with their paired Director, to pitch final vision of the film to Taival Films.


1 of the 3 paired Cinematographer’s will be awarded with the ‘Emerging Cinematographer Award 2020’ and work with their paired Director to bring their vision of ‘Recollection’ to life.

 

The produced film to be premiered at MWFF in 2021. 

WHY IS THIS INITIATIVE IMPORTANT?

There are not enough women in key creative roles in the film industry. 

According to Screen Australia only 2% of Australian Cinematographers are women.
We know this percentage would be greater if women were more often granted a seat at the table amongst men, as equals.
